As we grow in knowing God through His Word, certain stories and scriptures begin to speak to us in a special way. There is a Word for every season that we go through, whether if it’s a tough season, or an amazing one. Life stretches us, drains us, and sometimes leaves us wondering how we’re supposed to keep going. But tucked inside is a passage many of us may have heard before—Psalm 23 [NKJV].

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;
My cup runs over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord
Forever.
Through this, God reminds us that you can keep going because He is guiding, protecting, and providing. Your endurance begins–not with your strength–but with His leadership. He actively shepherds you step by step, and this truth lifts that pressure off your shoulders. You can keep going because you’re not carrying yourself!
As He’s guiding us, sometimes He leads us into rest before He leads us into movement. When we take matters into our own hands, we can push ourselves too hard by trying to check everything off on our to-do lists without taking a moment to pause in His presence. Green pastures represent nourishment, safety, and stillness. Rest is a part of endurance! You’re not weak for needing it, but wise for receiving it. When your heart and mind are quieted by His presence, you gain the clarity to keep moving.
The valleys we face are only temporary, but it can be something we face “forever” if we choose to stay in it. Goodness is ahead! Psalm 23 isn’t just comforting, but it’s empowering. The valleys we face are real, however, the key word in verse 4 is “through”. Remember that you are not stuck, just passing through! God restores what hardship drains, and He rebuilds what stress breaks down. The journey we face aren’t by random, but He leads us with purpose.
If you’re walking through a season where your strength feels thin, Psalm 23 is your reminder that God is not asking you to push through on your own. We can endure today because your forever is settled! The God who restores your soul is the same God who walks you through the valley and leads you into places of peace and purpose. He is not finished with your story. He is not done strengthening you. And He is not done guiding you forward.
Reflection Question: Which part of Psalm 23 speaks most to the season you’re in right now, and how might God be inviting you to trust Him more deeply as you take your next step forward?
